Former governor of Novosibirsk Region Vasily Yurchenko found guilty of abuse of office

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the 5th unit (based in Novosibirisk) of the Investigative Committee’s Head Office as sufficient to convict former governor of Novosibirsk Region Vasily Yurchenko. He was found guilty of abuse of power by a person in state office under Part 2 of Article 286 of the RF Criminal Code.

The court and investigators have found out that Yurchenko’s actions, which were obviously beyond his official power, considerably violated rights and legal interests of individuals and legal entities after their right to take part in a bidding and buy property in Novosibirsk was limited. Those actions caused OAO GazTransKom a damage of 135 thousand rubles.

The court has given Yurchenko a suspended sentence of 3 years and 3 years of probation. He was also banned from occupying positions in state service and local governments for 3 years.
