Probe launched in Omsk against staff of boarding school where 13-year-old was beaten

The Omsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation against the staff of special boarding school No 5 located in the city of Omsk suspected of negligence under Part 1 of Article 293 of the RF Criminal Code.

The reason for a check and the investigation was a footage posted online showing a 13-year-old inmate of the school being beaten by his classmates aged between 13 and 17.

According to information investigators have gotten during questionings of the teenagers in the presence of a psychologist and their legal representatives, the boy suffered beating on 23 October because he had broken headphones. According to the boy, it all started as a game, but then the teenagers got mad and started hitting him hard. After the incident, two of the teenagers aged 16 and 17 ran away from the school, but were found by police a few hours later and were returned to the facility. A medical examination of the beaten boy found soft tissue bruises on his arm.

The investigators have also questioned a teacher, who came into the room right after the conflict, but failed to notice the incident or take necessary steps, as the investigators believe.

The investigators are going to find out all the circumstances of and reasons for the incident, as well as look into organization of the teenagers’ pastime and proper control over their behavior and creation of safe living conditions.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee ordered the Central office to take the investigation under supervision.
