Alexander Bastrykin orders control over probe into series of incident reported by media

Yesterday, mass media published information that a man living in a n assisted living facility in Arkhangelsk Region was injured several times, but the facility’s administration did nothing to prevent it. The Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area Office of the Investigative Committee has launched a check into the incident. The article went on saying that the man’s mother, recalled a case that is already under supervision of the Chairman regarding death of an elderly woman that happened in the same facility, and asked Mr. Bastrykin to take under control her complaint as well.

Mr. Bastrykin has responded at once and ordered that the Central Office should take control over the check into the incident. Investigators are going to thoroughly check and give legal assessment to the actions of the facility’s staff and administration. The Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area Office of the Investigative Committee is requesting the prosecutor’s office to check legality and grounds of the decision to refuse starting an investigation in the injuring of the man made by an employee of the enquiry department.

Additionally, mass media continue reporting on the incident with a 15-year-old girl from Saint Petersburg, who went to visit her father in Turkey and can’t come back. Possible unlawful acts against the girl have been reported.

As protecting rights of miners is a priority of the Investigative Committee, the Saint Petersburg Directorate of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into attempted suicide solicitation of a minor in order to thoroughly and impartially check the media reports. Investigators are going to look into all the circumstances of the incident and study the girl’s living conditions both in Russia and abroad. 

The Chairman has ordered corresponding divisions of the Investigative Committee to closely cooperate with the Russian Foreign Ministry to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime and to ensure cooperation with competent authorities in Turkey to protect the teenager. The probe is now under control at the Investigative Committee’s Central Office.
