Probe launched in An-2 crash in Amur Region

An Antonov An-2 plane operated by a private company crashed in the settlement if Ekimchan, Selemdzhinsky District, Amur Region on 7 November 2017 at 9:05 AM local time. There were two crew members aboard, one of whom died. The East Siberia Transport Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings in violation of aircraft safety and operation rules entailing death of a person under Part 2 of Article 263 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, the plane rented by Dal-Trans-Aero was on route from the settlement of Ekimchan to the settlement of Udskoye, Khabarovsk Territory. A short time after the takeoff, the plane hit trees and ground near houses in Ekimchan and then caught fire, which almost completely destroyed the aircraft. One of the crew members was killed, while another one was taken to a local hospital with a range of injuries.

An investigative team has moved out to the crash scene. The investigators seized documents of the air company, relative to the plane and the flight. A forensic medical examination has been ordered to find out cause of death and nature of injuries of the killed pilot.

The investigators consider technical failure, pilot’s error and weather conditions as main reasons for the crash. The investigation continues.
