Former deputy prosecutor of Kursk Region gets sentence

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Head Office of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict former deputy prosecutor of Kursk Region Roman Korolyov. He was found guilty of violation of road code entailing death of a person under Part 3 of Article 264 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, on 26 September 2015, Korolyov was driving his Volkswagen Tuareg in Vokzalnaya Street in the settlement of Cheremisinovo 100 kmph while the maximum speed allowed was only 40 kmph. At some point he swerved to the ditch and ran over Alla Alpeyeva, a local resident, who died at the scene.

Korolyov denied the charges, but there was enough evidence against him.

There were attempts to hinder the investigation. When the crashed car was put on a guarded parking lot, some identified persons shocked it electricity to damage its air bag unit that contained data on the speed of the car at the moment of the accident.

The investigators established that that was not the only time the accused had violated the road code.  The same day before running down the woman, Korolyov had speeded twice. Between 2011 and 2015, the former deputy prosecutor had speeded 126, including in settlements. In some cases, his speed was 80 km higher than the maximum speed limit. Being an experienced driver, he could not but realize what tragic consequences this kind of driving could have had.

The court has given Korolyov a suspended sentence of 3 years in prison, 2.5 years of probation and cancelled his driving license for 2 years.
