Alexander Bastrykin orders Central Office of Investigative Committee to control number of checks and investigations following media reports

Yesterday several federal TV channels reported possible offences committed against a minor and some socially unprotected citizens. Having watched those reports, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has ordered the Central Office to take under control checks launched in Omsk Region, Crimea and Stavropol Territory and a criminal investigation opened in Arkhangelsk Region.

One of the news programs reported that a resident of Crimea had sold a house occupied by his elderly relative who was also a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, making the woman homeless.

Another piece was about a resident of the settlement of Donskoye, Trunovsky District, Stavropol Territory, who lived with her physically-challenged daughter in a ramshackle barracks. In 2015, representatives of the local administration had misled the woman into privatizing the housing not fit for living in. As a result, the family had been knocked off the list of those waiting for better housing.

Some mass media also published video and reports that 4 inmates of an adaptive boarding school for children between 13 and 14 years of age in Omsk had beaten their classmate for broken headphones.

A probe is underway in Arkhangelsk Region opened into unsafe services under Part 1 of Article 238 of the RF Criminal Code. According to preliminary information, the palliative department of Arkhangelsk city hospital No 4 accepted a 90-year-old woman on 2 September 2017. The woman received no proper care from the medical workers. She fell from her bed at about 11 PM on 17 September 2017 and died on 12 October. The mass media reported that it had been not the first time when rights of patients were violated in that hospital.

Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee, has ordered that all the said reports should be checked thoroughly and that inquests should be started if there are enough reasons for that. The Central Office was instructed to control checks launched by regional investigative authorities and the results of the criminal investigation.
