A fire happened at about 5 AM on 2 December 2017 in the settlement of Obolenskoye, Maloyaroslavets District. Emergency Ministry’s fire and rescue crews found seven bodies after the fire was put out. The Kaluga Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in reckless homicide under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to preliminary data, a 64-year-old woman, her four sons aged between 36 and 44 and two children aged 1 and 2 were in the house when the fire started. The wooden single-floor house burned to the core. An investigative team headed by acting head of the regional investigative authority Vadim Korobov is working at the scene.

Investigators are looking into two versions of the fire: careless handling of fire and fire safety breach. Investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
