Investigation finished in Transbaikalian Territory against former members of region’s largest gang – Osintsevskiye

The Transbaikalian Territory office of the Investigative Committee has finished an investigation against 6 former members of the region’s largest gang – Osintsevskiye. They are charged with membership in a criminal community under Part 2 of Article 210, membership in a gang under Part 2 of Article 209, banditry-related murder of two or more people committed by an organized group under Part 2, items “a”, “g” “h” of Article 105 of the RF Criminal Code and other major crimes.

According to investigators, the accused were members of the so called gang of Osintsev, which acted in Transbaikalian Territory from 1993 to 2007. They killed 6 people, including on killing committed in Buryatia, they committed robberies in both Transbaikalian Territory and Buryatia, extortions, coercion into deals and other crimes.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the signed indictment has been referred to court.

This investigation made a bottom line in the investigation into the activity of the largest gang across Transbaikalian Territory and Siberia. The investigators established that Osintsev and his friend Melnichuk created the gang in 1993 in the town of Chita and then headed it. The gang was active for almost 20 years. It has over 40 active members who committed major crimes, including attacks on people. They committed a number of crimes in conjunction with members of other smaller gangs. They prepared carefully before crimes, using illegally obtained firearms and explosive devices, wearing uniforms of traffic police officers, camouflaged clothes and ski masks. They committed almost 400 crimes injuring some 500 people. The gangsters killed more than 40 people, attempted to kill some 10 people more, committed a number of robberies and thefts, as well as other crimes.

The preliminary investigation was conducted by a group of the most experienced investigators. During the probe, which took five years, the investigators got a huge amount of evidence. More than 80 members of gangs and groups are now under investigation, with criminal records taking up more than 500 files. Criminal cases against most of the gangsters has already been tried in courts and they have been sentenced to long prison terms. Former leader of the gang Osintsev has received 25 years in prison.
