Probe launched in unsafe services after people die in road accident in Yakutia

The Sakha (Yakutia) Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation in provision of unsafe services that entail death of two or more people after several people were killed in a traffic accident in Megino-Kangalassky District, Sakha (Yakutia).

According to investigators, at about 9 Pm on 8 December 2017, a 24-year-old driver of a UAZ-SSA220621-01 car with passengers was driving from the settlement of Nizhny Bestyakh to the settlement of Ytyk-Kyuyol, Tattinsky District. At kilometer marker 39 of the Kolyma federal motorway he took the wrong side of the road and collided with a KamAz-5320 truck driven by a 55-year-old man. Both vehicles caught fire.

9 passengers of the UAZ, including a 2-year-old girl, were killed in the accident. 3 of the injured, including the truck driver were taken to a hospital.

An investigator has ordered necessary expert examinations. Operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the accident. The UAZ driver has been established to be a sole proprietor who provided carrier services.

The police have also opened an investigation in violation of the road code entailing death of two or more people under Part 5 of Article 264 of the RF Criminal Code. The investigators are going to request that case be passed over from the police to the regional investigative authority for being joined with the current investigation.
