Member of illegal armed group to stand trial

The North Caucasian Federal District Directorate of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings against Ibragim Dzhamalov charged with membership in an illegal armed group under Part 2 of Article 208 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, in early March 2017, Dzhamalov joined an illegal armed group created in Naurskaya District, Chechnya by Islamic radicals Ali Bakayev and Khabil Muridov. In different periods of time, another 5 residents of the Chechen Republic joined the group.

On 24 March 2017, members of the said group attacked military servants of military unit 3761 located in the settlement of Naurskaya to destabilize sociopolitical situation in Ciscaucasia. 6 soldiers were killed, while three more were wounded. All six of the attackers were killed.

Dzhamalov did not take part in the attack, but he had helped to prepare for it. Having been able to walk out of the group and report it to the police, Dzhamalov had remained its member until he was detained.

He was placed in custody pending trial.

The investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case against Dzhamalov was severed to form a separate lawsuit and has been referred to court with the signed indictment.

At present, investigative and search operations are underway to locate organizer of the crime Ali Bakayev.
