Investigative Committee’s Chairman orders meeting with parents of children killed in road accident in Khanty-Mansiysk

Investigations continue in a road accident near Khanty-Mansiysk that claimed lives of 12 people, including 10 children. The Investigative Committee has reported on the investigation several times. The Chairman of the Committee met with the parents of killed girls and told them in person about the progress of the investigation. During the meeting, Mr. Bastrykin heard their complaints not related directly to the investigation, but to their personal social problems and to development of children’s sport in the region. All the complaints have been analyzed and Mr. Bastrykin forwarded the results to the governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area.

Yesterday, however, the Chairman learned that the initiative group of those parents had publicly expressed their intention to meet him in person. He ordered that the meeting should be organized so that he was able to listen to what the parents had to say to him and tell them about results of the probe. He met them before and assured that he was willing to meet them again and that the probe into the death of young athletes was under his personal control.

By now some of the accused have already appeared in court. The investigations against two traffic police officers and acting chairman of the PE and sports committee of the Nefteyugansk administration, who have been charged, are being conducted by the most experienced investigators of the Committee’s Head Office following an order of Mr. Bastrykin. They are now working to identify and prosecute all those involved in the death of children.

The investigators are carrying out the fullest and impartial investigation to find out all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
