A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area Office of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict a 37-year-old female ex-convict from Plesetsk District. She was found guilty of torturing a minor under Part 2, item “d” of Article 117 and failure to discharge parental duties aggravated by cruelty to a minor under Article 156 of the RF Criminal Code.

The court and investigators have revealed that, from October 2016 to January 2017, the accused regularly insulted and beat her 17-year-old daughter because she complained about her mother’s drinking. The woman did nothing to provide her daughter with food or clothes, but took about herself alone.

The girl reported the situation to the police and during an interrogation the woman blamed her behavior on drinking and explained that after the probe had been opened she had found a job and stopped drinking.

The court has sentenced the woman to 4 years in a minimum security facility.
