Investigative Committee orders head of Novosibirsk Region Investigative Authority to lead operations at shoe factory after fatal fire

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee has ordered the head of the Novosibirsk Region Investigative Authority to personally lead the investigative operation at a fire site at a shoe factory which left several workers dead.

The fire at the shoe factory located in Sovetskaya Street in the settlement of Chernorechensky, Iskitim District, started on the morning of 4 January. It burned some 2,000 sq. meters housing shoe production facilities and storing shoes and materials. The exact number of victims is being confirmed at the moment.

The Novosibirsk Region office of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in breach of safety entailing death of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 216 of the RF Criminal Code.

After the fire and smoke have been contained, the team of major case investigators and criminalists of the regional investigative authority are going to start the investigation if the scene. The reason for the fire will be revealed by the investigation of the scene and results of a fire examination.

The investigators are also going to find out all the contributing factors to the fire and deaths of workers. The investigation is under supervision of the Investigative Committee’s Central Office.
