Alexander Bastrykin orders Investigative Committee’s Central Office to supervise probe into death of child in Perm Territory

Mass media are actively discussing the death of a three-year-old boy in a hospital in Perm Territory. The boy’s mother is reported to have sent him to a family group at a children’s help center, as she had not means to support him at the time. On 6 December 2017, the boy was injured while playing with other children. He was taken to a hospital, from where he was sent back in a plaster. Later in the week, the boy felt much worse and died in a hospital a few days later. Mass media say that doctors failed to diagnose a disease that caused the death, according to preliminary data. The Perm Territory Office of the Investigative Committee are looking into reckless homicide due to improper discharge of professional duties under Part 2 of Article 109 of the RF Criminal Code.

Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has ordered that investigators should check thoroughly all the circumstances and give impartial legal assessment to actions of both medical workers and regional guardianship authorities. In addition, the Committee’s Central Office have been instructed to supervise the inquest.
