Suspect over child pornography detained thanks to cooperation between Russian Investigative Committee and German law enforcement authorities

The Investigative Committee’s International Cooperation Department has passed to the Rostov Region Office of the Investigative Committee materials received from law enforcement authorities in German suggesting that indecent images of children were published online in Russian and Europe, including Germany by an unknown person located in Rostov Region.

The Rostov Region Office investigative authority opened an investigation in obtaining, storing with the intent and spreading of pornographic materials with images of minors, committed using information and telecommunications networks including the Internet under Part 2, item “d” of Article 242.1 of the RF Criminal Code.

The investigators together with regional police force quickly identified and detained the suspect. It is a 31-year-old resident of the town of Novocherkassk.

During an interrogation the man pleaded guilty to all charges and confessed to obtaining, systematizing and online distribution of child pornography for reward. He downloaded the materials from other online resources to get some money to buy drugs.

The investigators have found that the suspect published more than 300 thousand indecent images of children and more than 11 thousand indecent videos of children. He got paid by cryptocurrency.

The investigators searched his flat and found a considerable number of media storage devices, software, etc. full of child pornography.

The investigators also found what appeared to be drugs (marijuana, amphetamine). The substances were sent for a chemical test, after which the investigators will make a decision on illegal drug dealing under Article 228 of the RF Criminal Code.

By now, a court has ruled to place the suspect under house arrest. Charges are expected to be pressed soon. The inquest continues.
