A report was received on 20 January 2018 that the bodies of 2 young children without visible signs of violent death were found in a detached house in the town of Prokopyevsk after putting out a fire. The Kemerovo Region Office of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in reckless homicide of two people under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to preliminary information, the children’s parents had gone shopping and left their children aged 3 and 6 home. When the parents came back they saw smoke billowing from the house. The father called firemen and an ambulance and then together with a neighbor took the unconscious children out of the burning house. The children died on the way to hospital.

An investigator has examined the scene and is now collecting personal characteristic of the family. According to neighbors the family is not a problem one and do not abuse alcohol.

At present necessary investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. Cause of death and of the fire will be found by forensic investigations. The investigation continues.
