Two more gangsters found guilty of 2000 Chechnya attempts on military men

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the North Caucasian Federal District Directorate of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict residents of Stavropol Territory Faizbek Amangaziyev and Arslan Valiyev. They were found guilty of being members of a gang under Part 2 of Article 209 and an attempt on military men under Article 317 of the RF Criminal Code.

The Court and investigators have revealed that on 29 February 2000, Amangazieyv and Valiyev while being members of an armed gang led by Basayev and Khattab, took part in an attack on military men of the 6th company, 104th regiment, 76th Pskov division of the Airborne Forces which took place in the mountains and forests near the settlement of Ulus-Kert, Shatoi District, Chechnya at high point 776.0. They attacked from three directions, with Amangaziyev and Valiyev firing Kalashnikovs 5.45 at the military men. 84 military men were killed and 4 wounded in the attack that ended in the morning of 1 March 2000.

The court has sentenced Valiyev and Amangaziyev to 15 years 6 months and 16 years respectively to be served in a maximum-security facility.

Earlier, 9 other participants of the attack, including a Ukrainian citizen and member of UNA-UNSO, an organization banned in Russia, Alexander Malofeyev were sentenced to long prison terms.
