Working visit of Chairman of Investigative Committee of Russia to Dagestan

Today Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin arrived to the Republic of Dagestan where he took part in a session of the National Antiterrorism Committee.

The session was held in Makhachkala and hosted by Alexander Bortnikov, Chairman of the National Antiterrorism Committee and Director of the FSB of Russia. It was also attended by other officers of the National Antiterrorism Committee; Chairmen of several antiterrorism committees of constituents of the Russian Federation; heads of interested federal executive authorities; representatives of law enforcement and special services.

The attendees presented results of implementation of a complex of forceful and preventive measures that provided for a decrease in the amount of terrorist offenses in North Caucasus Federal District by over a half.

Alexander Bortnikov said that the joint efforts contributed to blocking of external support routes and to reducing of the allocation rate of people and financial resources to crime underworld.

In addition, while in Makhachkala Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin held a briefing session together with his deputy Igor Krasnov, as well as heads and officers of the Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia over the Republic of Dagestan; where he heard the most recent information on the preliminary investigation into several certain criminal cases regarding former high-profile officials of Dagestan. Defendants of one of the cases - serving Prime Minister of Dagestan Abdusamad Gamidov and two of his deputies, as well as former minister of education of the Republic - are charged with public funds embezzlement. This criminal case is being investigated into by most experienced officers of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Also, there was a discussion about criminal investigation into Magomed Makhachev, former head of the Dagestan Regional Office for Medical and Social Assessment, under his receiving bribes; as well as into Magomedrasul Gitinov, head of municipal public institution “Makhachkala Directory on Architecture and Urban Development”, under his negligence and admitted excess of powers resulting in grievous consequences.

Following the session, the Chairman gave a range of specific assignments and instructions aimed at fast, comprehensive and qualitative investigation of crimes, as well as at increasing and strengthening of the evidence.
