The court recognized the evidence gathered by the investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Perm Territory sufficient to adjudge a 25-year-old resident of the town of Lysva. He was found guilty of committing crimes under paragraphs “A, C, F” of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder of two persons, a juvenile, committed by a generally dangerous method), Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code (wilful destruction of other people’s property involved the infliction of considerable damage by fire).
The investigation and the court established that in the morning of December 27, 2017, a quarrel arose between the 25-year-old local resident and his former partner in a rented room in the town of Lysva. At that, the young man struck the 23-year-old woman with several blows, followed by strangulation with an electric wire. After that, the accused began to strangle the son at the age of 1 year and 11 months who came to the kitchen. Misbelieving to have strangled the child as well, the young man left the room, leaving the dead woman and the unconscious boy behind. The accused came back in a few hours carrying a highly-inflammable liquid, a container with which he put onto a working gas-burner of a stove. Then he locked the flat and waited for the fire to start, then left. The fire in the flat was noticed by passers-by and extinguished by fire department crews. However, the woman and the child died.
Due to joint actions of investigators of the regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia and police officers, the man was identified and detained within 24 hours following the crimes.
A significant amount of investigative and procedural actions was carried out by the investigators during the criminal investigation in order to define all the circumstances most thoroughly and comprehensively. Over 50 witnesses were interrogated; 11 various forensic examinations were arranged and performed. During the investigation the accused was taken to custody.
