On the evening of October 11, 2018 a Mercedes-Benz truck and a Fiat Ducato minibus collided on the M-7 Volga highway near the village of Bolshaya Karachury of the Cheboksary District. As the result of the traffic accident, 11 minibus passengers were killed.

In connection with the identified violations in the activities of economic entities that owned the vehicles, the investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Chuvash Republic initiated a criminal case into an offence under Part 3 Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (unsafe services entailing death of people).

Currently, the necessary investigative actions to establish all the circumstances of the incident are being carried out; the necessary forensic examinations have been ordered. The investigation is ongoing.
