The Zabaikalsky Regional Office of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation continues to investigate a probe into a murder of a 12-year-old girl (Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia).
Today, a 45-year-old Chita resident was apprehended on suspicion of committing the crime.
It will be recalled that the girl had left for school on Friday morning and had gone missing. The Regional Investigative Committee investigators had immediately launched the probe into the matter, and together with the police begun to conduct investigative actions and criminal intelligence and surveillance operations to establish the whereabouts of the girl and identify the persons involved in the crime.
On Monday evening, the information was obtained about the involvement of the 45-year-old man in the murder of the child. With the support of the Special Police Force of Federal National Guard Troops Service soldiers, a search was conducted at the residence of the man, during which the investigators found and seized items that unequivocally indicated the detainee’s involvement in the murder of the minor. This morning, the investigators organized an additional inspection at the detainee’s residence, during which the body of the 12-year-old girl showing signs of a violent death was found. The investigators examined the body, ordered a forensic examination, including forensic medical and genotypic examinations (DNA examination).
It should also be noted that the suspect had previously served a sentence for committing a crime against sexual integrity of a minor and was released form prison in 2008.
The detainee will be charged in the coming days. The investigators intend to go to court with a motion to keep the detainee in custody.
Moreover, the investigators are to examine the possibility of the suspect's involvement in similar offences in Zabaikalsky Territory. With reference to that, the investigators address citizens, who may have suffered from the man's actions, to report it to the Zabaikalsky Regional Office of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation by phone 8-914-454-00-62.
