In Moscow Region, woman charged and restrained for leaving her child in entrance hall of apartment building in Shchyolkovo

The Moscow Regional Office of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation charged a 40-year-old woman with committing an offence under Article 156 (failure to discharge parental duties) and Article 125 (child endangerment) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

In addition, at the request of the investigator, the court ruled to keep the accused in custody.

We will remind that, on October 14, 2018, residents of an apartment building in Shchyolkovo had found a boy in their entrance hall. In line with an instruction of Alexander Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, a probe had been launched immediately by the Moscow Regional Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia. In the shortest possible time, the regional investigators of the Investigative Committee together with officers of Moscow Region Main Directorate of the Ministry for Internal Affairs of Russia had detained the boy’s mother. During the interrogation, it had been established that the suspect was a resident of Ukraine with no permanent place of residence in the Russian Federation. She had been living with her son in Shchyolkovo at different addresses.

A number of investigative actions were conducted to the accused, including an examination of the testimony given on the spot, where she had confirmed the previous confession, saying that she had left the child in the entrance hall owing to a challenging situation in her life, homelessness and pecuniary burdens.

At the moment, the investigative activities associated with the probe and aimed to gather and prove the evidence, are ongoing. DNA material was taken from the supposed birth father of the child. Also, the investigators established the causes and conditions that contributed to the commission of the crime. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
