Probe launched into First Deputy Prosecutor of Republic of Bashkortostan

The Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe into First Deputy Prosecutor of the Republic of Bashkortostan Oleg Gorbunov and Deputy Head of the Department on Supervision of Criminal Procedure and Operational Search Activities of said Prosecutor’s Office Artur Sharetdinov. They are suspected of committing an offence under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia (bribe-taking).

According to the investigation, in 2017, Oleg Gorbunov and Artur Sharetdinov, acting as a conspired group with mediation of three persons, had received a bribe of 10 million roubles from the First Deputy Head of Ufa to annul the decision to launch a probe into illegal actions of officials of the administration of Ufa Urban District of the Republic of Bashkortostan during the implementation of a regional targeted program for resettlement of citizens from the emergency housing stock. Later, Gorbunov’s illegal ruling had been repealed by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation.

The investigation, in cooperation with officers of the FSS of Russia, disrupted Gorbunov’s attempt to leave Russia via Sheremetyevo Airport. He was arrested in order to undergo investigative activities. In the near future, he will be charged, and the investigation intends to motion the court to rule for his detention.

Investigative actions are being carried out in order to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The investigators also inspect other individuals for involvement in similar corruption or misconduct crimes.
