In Ivanovo, man accused of murdering four women in 2010-2011, detained

A person involved in murders of four women in Ivanovo Region in 2010-2011 was identified and detained, following several years of scrupulous joint efforts of the Ivanovo Regional Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia, experts of the Main Forensics Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, and agencies of the Ministry for Internal Affairs of Russia.

According to the investigation, during the period from June 1, 2010 to May 14, 2011, the bodies of four young women with wounds to the neck and / or signs of suffocation, as well as signs of sexual assault, had been found in forest areas in Ivanovo District, close to settlements and roads.

During the preliminary criminal investigation, 373 persons had been questioned; more than 150 forensic examinations had been arranged and conducted by expert institutions in Moscow, Yaroslavl, and Ivanovo; 39 examinations, 41 searches, six identifications, three investigative experiments had been held. The Main Forensics Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia had performed DNA tests of 4,725 individuals. The Forensic Technology Directorate of the Main Forensics Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia had received data on communications of several thousand subscribers obtained from mobile network operators during the investigative experiments.

As a result of the complex of investigative actions, the study and analysis of material evidence, it became possible to identify the man involved in the murders. He was a 39-year-old resident of Ivanovo, previously convicted. On October 24, 2018, he was detained in Cherepovets, Vologda Region, where he had been working as a painter, and was taken to Ivanovo. The man was charged; the court ruled to put the man into custody at the request of the investigator.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
