In Murmansk, probe launched into safety rules violation in operation of ship-repairing floating dock, which entailed people injured

The North-Western Transport Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched a probe into safety rules violation in operation of a ship-repairing floating dock as an offence under Part 2 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of Russia (violation of safety rules during other activities that has entailed by negligence the death of a person).

Preliminary data show that, on October 29, 2018, the dock was flooded owing to the violation of rules of operating and maintenance of ship-raising structures. That resulted in five persons harmed - four of them were pulled out of water with signs of freezing injuries, while the fifth was reported missing.

Investigators and forensic experts of the North-Western Transport Investigations Directorate are working on the scene. Investigation activities will determine the causes of the list of the floating dock. In addition, the investigators will provide a legal assessment of the employer's actions on provision of safe environment for workers of the dock.

At the moment, investigative activities are being carried out in order to establish circumstances, causes and conditions of the incident. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
