In Republic of Tatarstan, probe launched into threats towards veteran of Great Patriotic War


The Tatarstan Regional Office of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched a probe into offences against a 92-year-old war veteran committed by unidentified persons under Article 119 (threat of murder) and Part 1 of Article 137 (invasion of personal privacy) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

Earlier, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed investigative units of Tatarstan to carry out a pre-investigation probe into collectors’ threats towards the 92-year-old veteran.

The information about the offences against the Great Patriotic War veteran resident of Kazan had been registered during media monitoring. A story about the honoured citizen, who had allegedly owed over 40,000 roubles for housing and utilities, had been broadcast by federal TV channels.

According to the investigation, the unidentified persons had been calling the veteran and threatening him with grave injury. Moreover, the unidentified persons had illegally publicised the information regarding the private life of the veteran, having placed the data on his debts to the housing and utilities management company of Aviastroitelny district of Kazan in the entrance hall of the apartment building he had been living in.

Investigative activities aimed at determining of circumstances of the offence are in progress. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
