Alexander Bastrykin meets veterans from Union of Investigation Veterans

Today, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation hosted a round-table meeting of Alexander Bastrykin and members of the Union of Investigation Veterans.

The event was attended by Deputy Chairmen of the Investigative Committee Alexander Sorochkin, Igor Krasnov, and Alexander Fedorov; chiefs of several Directorates of the Investigative Committee; Chairman of the Presidium of the National Association of Investigation Veterans Organizations and the Union of Investigation Veterans Vladimir Dontsov; as well as members of the Union Yury Lekanov, Vladimir Zubrin, Yevgeny Ilchenko, Vyacheslav Kozlov, Anatoly Kondratov, Nikolay Kryuchkov, and Alexander Kukushkin.

While opening the meeting, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia reminded that, at one of the previous meetings with the Union, he himself had suggested creating a so-called “wise council” to make the law-enforcement experience accumulated by veterans for decades an asset for further development and improvement of the Investigative Committee. Alexander Bastrykin informed the veterans on the Committee’s development prospects and called the present stage a transition from quantity to quality. The Investigative Committee takes upon a great amount of work to meet the established challenges. Much of expertise has been accumulated, and at the moment, all the in-house changes are aimed to improve the quality of investigations. Which is why, a complex of measures to achieve this has been set and launched.

The Chairman thanked Vladimir Dontsov and all the members of the veteran union participated in creation of the National Association of Investigation Veterans Organizations, and suggested considering that as a start of uniting the investigation veterans from different countries.

The participants of the event discussed some relevant topics and investigative issues, including development of scientific and training basis that would provide for young investigators and forensic experts for the Committee. “Help of the veterans will be invaluable in this regard,” the Chairman of the Investigative Committee added.

In their turn, the veterans listed areas of work of the Committee, in which their experience might be useful. The heads of the veteran organization suggested engaging of their regional colleagues in the work of Investigations Directorate panels, involving them in personal receptions of citizens, and seeking of their advisory aide in investigation of the most complex crimes.

The Chairman of the Committee noted that investigators and forensic experts were equipped with advanced technology appliances allowing them to solve crimes of any complexity. However, he underlined that the Committee needs the help of the veterans to educate officers that would be temptation-resisting and empathetic.

Closing the event, Alexander Bastrykin emphasised the necessity of joint round-table meetings and efficiency of solutions developed together with investigation veterans. The Chairman of the Committee thanked the veterans for their untiring engagement in Investigative Committee activities and for their desire to preserve and increase best officer traditions to the benefit of future. “We deeply appreciate your contribution in Investigative Committee improvement and are grateful for the opportunity to learn from your extensive living and professional experience,” the Committee Chairman concluded.
