In Krasnodar Territory, owner of hostel, where boy stayed with his grandmother and died falling into storm drain, charged

The Krasnodar Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation charged the owner of a hostel in Lazarevskoe rural settlement, where a 7-year-old boy had died falling into a storm drain, with infliction of death by negligence (Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

According to the investigation, the accused in violation of construction requirements had voluntarily installed a concrete slab above the storm drain in front of his hostel Oktyabrskaya Street of Lazarevskoe rural settlement, failing to equip it with railings or fences or to install lattices with openings in the top of the drain. At that, the man had known he had not complied with the requirements, due to his special education. Thus, on August 3, 2018, the 7-year-old boy heading for the hostel had been hit by a stream of water, and he had fallen into the open storm drain that had been running along the street. The stream had pulled the child under the concrete slab and then to the sea. Following the search, the boy’s body had been found in the sea near the Svirka River.

The man accepted the charges and pled guilty. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
