In Voronezh Region, investigators launch pre-investigation probe upon claim on provision of inadequate medical care to elderly woman

The Voronezh Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation conducts a pre-investigation probe into provision of inadequate medical care to a 89-year-old woman in Voronezh healthcare institution upon a claim by her relatives.

Thus, in his application, the son of the victim reports that, on November 4, 2018, his mother had been subject to a lower limb amputation in Voronezh Regional Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Voronezh City Hospital No. 3”, where the woman had been delivered to for urgent hospitalization. However, after the surgery, her son discovered that, as a result of the surgical intervention, her left leg to the middle of her thigh had been erroneously amputated instead of the right leg, though, according to him, there had been no medical reasons for that. Following that, the man had complained to law enforcement authorities.

Under the immediately launched procedural probe, the investigators examined the crime scene; withdrew medical documentation; requested a forensic expertise; and are currently interviewing relatives of the victim and witnesses; collected testimonies from the medical staff; and requested documents from all healthcare institutions listed by the claimant; and are now carrying out other activities to define each and every circumstance of what happened. The pre-investigation probe will result in a motivated procedural decision.
