Investigators arrest Moscow citizen accused of organizing of murder of former police officer 14 years ago

A probe into murder of Sergey Nazarov, former deputy head of the Interdistrict Homicide Department of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Main Directorate for Internal Affairs murdered on his way home on November 23, 2004, has been under proceeding of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

The crime has been unsolved for a long time. Due to tedious work, investigators and officers of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Investigation Police Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs managed to identify a perpetrator and an accomplice of this offence. Moreover, a number of grave and especially grave offences was detected and investigated during the investigation of this crime: an attempt of a murder committed by a generally dangerous method using an explosive device; an attempt of a murder committed using firearms; swindling on a large scale; and several crimes involving illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or bearing of firearms and explosive devices. The solved probe into the said offences was referred to the court to issue an indictment against the three persons. The murderer of Nazarov was sentenced to 22 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony; his accomplice was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony.

The instigator of the crime was not identified during the investigation into Sergey Nazarov’s murder; therefore, the probe against him was processed separately and suspended due to failure to identify the person considered to be guilty.

14 year after, due to planned, tedious and continuous work of investigators in close interaction with agencies performing search activities, it became possible to collect sufficient data on involvement of a 52-year-old Moscow citizen of no prior convictions into the organization of this crime. In order to locate the stated person, an operative investigation group consisting of investigators of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia and officers of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was immediately sent to Moscow where they identified the location of the suspected murder organizer in interaction with officers of the Main Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs. The suspect was immediately transferred to Krasnoyarsk to undergo investigative activities.

Currently, the Zheledorozhny District Court of Krasnoyarsk ruled to keep the organizer (instigator) of Sergey Nasarov’s murder in custody; he was charged with organising of the murder, in other words, with intentional infliction of death to another person by hire. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
