In Ryazan Region, probe launched into infliction of injuries to minor following referral of the materials to Investigative Committee

The Ryazan Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened an investigation into an offence under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Russia, upon intentional infliction of grave injuries to a minor.

The initial probe was conducted by internal affairs agencies upon their receiving on October 24, 2018, of a report on a minor born in 2002 having been admitted to a hospital with a closed traumatic brain injury. A non-criminal cause of the trauma during a sports training session was being considered as possible.

On November 12, 2018, the Ryazan Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee initiated a referral of the probe materials from the police to the Investigative Committee, upon distribution in social media of information on possible intentional infliction of injuries to the minor by unidentified persons. The IC launched its own investigative activities immediately after.

According to the updated information, on October 23, 2018, at about 10 PM, an ambulance admitted from a campus on Pugacheva Street to the State Budgetary Institution of Ryazan Region "Dmitrieva Regional Children Hospital the 16-year-old student of the Ryazan Teaching College diagnosed with grave bodily injuries.

The circumstances established during the pre-investigative probe served as a ground to open the investigation in order to examine all the possible versions of the minor's getting injured.

At the moment, the investigators are carrying out a set of investigative and procedural activities to comprehensively establish all the circumstances of the accident and the persons involved, to assess their role and extent of involvement; they are examining the victim's social circle, questioning witnesses, arranging the required forensic examinations.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
