In Tula Region, probe launched into death of children in fire

The Tula Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened an investigation under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Russia (infliction of death by negligence to two or more persons) into the bodies of four children found in an apartment of a residential building on Garnizonny Proezd Street of Tula after extinguishing of a fire in the apartment on November 21, 2018.

Investigators and forensics experts of the Investigations Directorate examined the scene and identified the victims of fire as young children that had been home with their mother.

According to the initial stage of the preliminary investigation, the woman had two own daughters, four adopted daughters, and one adopted son. The inspection of the scene showed that the bodies of the two own daughters of the woman and of her adopted son and daughter had been found after the fire was extinguished. It is also known that three adopted children of the victim are currently in children’s social institutions.

The investigators are carrying out searches and seizing necessary documents, arranging and carrying out forensic examinations aimed to establish causes of the death of the victims, and a fire technical expertise, interviewing witnesses and performing all necessary investigative activities aimed to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy and to gather and prove the evidence. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
