In Moscow, Gakaev brothers and their accomplice found guilty of preparing terrorist act

The evidence gathered by the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found sufficient by the court to sentence Adam and Ibragim Gakaevs and Fokshan Golub. In accordance with their involvement, they were found guilty of committing offences under Part 1 of Article 30; Paragraph A of Part 2 of Article 205 (preparations for a terrorist act); Part 1 of Article 222 (illegal acquisition and storage of firearms and explosives); Part 1 of Article 222.1 (illegal acquisition and storage of explosive devices); and Part 1 of Article 223 (illegal manufacture of weapons) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

The investigation and the court established that, no later than June 2017, Gakaev brothers, having radical views and willing to commit themselves to ISIL which is banned in the Russian Federation, decided to commit a terrorist act in Moscow Region in order to intimidate the society and sabotage the performance of government authorities. For this purpose, they conspired with Golub who manufactured weapons and purchased explosives. However, they failed to complete their criminal intent, since their criminal activities were intercepted by law enforcement officers.

The investigators carried out a significant number of investigative activities and expert examinations to prove the guilt of said persons to the full.

Gakaev brothers were sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony. Golub was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony.
