Probes launched into attacks on Russian diplomatic institutions in Ukraine

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened two investigations under Part 2 of Article 360 of the Criminal Code of Russia (assaults on persons or institutions enjoying international protection).

According to the investigation, on November 25-26, 2018, an organised conspired group of unidentified persons attacked the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ukraine located in Kiev, acting intentionally in order to complicate the international relations between Ukraine and Russia. The perpetrators threw smoke bombs and other pyrotechnic devices into the territory of the Embassy.

On November 26, some radically-minded persons committed a similar attack on the Russian General Council in Kharkov. Their actions impaired the regular operation of the Russian foreign institution.

Buildings and property of embassies are subject to international protection and have immunities under the international law, as the perpetrators were certainly aware of.

The Investigative Committee takes all measures provided by law to identify the persons involved in committing of said offences.
