Alexander Bastrykin meets veterans of criminal investigation police and departments for combating organized crime in Saint Petersburg

This autumn was marked by significant dates: on October 5 criminal investigation police celebrated its 100th anniversary, and November 15 marked 30 years since the creation of regional directorates for combating organized crime.

During his working visit to Saint Petersburg, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin held a meeting with veterans of the criminal investigation police and departments for combating organized crime to congratulate them on the passed anniversaries. Honouring of representatives of this challenging profession took place in the Saint Petersburg Academy of the Investigative Committee and was also attended by senior assistant of the Chairman Igor Komissarov; head of Educational Outreach Directorate Sergey Petrov; officers of the Central Office and a number of regional investigations directorates of the Investigative Committee of Russia; the Artistic Director of the Saint Petersburg State Academic Capella; People’s Artist of USSR and national awards winner Vladislav Chernushenko; Rector of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Investigative Committee Alexander Efremov; teaching staff and students of the Saint Petersburg educational institutions of the Committee.

In his welcoming speech, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia noted that during the whole period of their work both institutions proved their effectiveness and took their rightful place in combating crimes, law enforcement and establishing the rule of law. “A criminal investigation police officer is a key figure in solving crimes of any kind. Professionalism and courage, honour and valour, acutely attuned sense of justice and intransigence towards enemies of public order and rule of law are the qualities criminal investigation police officers feature. Credit for liquidation of the most dangerous criminal networks belongs to the Administration for Combating Organized Crime, its officers have been always characterized by perseverance and courage multiplied by professionalism and flair of case officers,” the Chairman of the Committee underlined.

Alexander Bastrykin also shared his memories of the first years of his career he started in Leningrad criminal investigation police: “My patrons and teachers were legendary Leningrad detectives who had been through war, faced danger on numerous occasions, and loved their work with commitment and dedication.”

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia wished representatives of the criminal investigation police and departments for combating organized crime – “to all of those loyal to their profession despite modern challenges and perform their service and civil duty with dignity” - all the best, luck, optimism and courage, and expressed gratitude for the work they do from day to day.

He paid a special tribute to the veterans: “Devotion to the Motherland, to their People and to the Service, intolerance to offences - that’s what the new generation of criminal investigation police officers inherited from the veterans of internal affairs institutions. Your experience and wisdom help young officers to become professionals in their duty.”

A gala concert was one of the presents for the veterans. It was opened by the Capella choir under Chief Conductor Vladislav Chernushenko. The concert programme also included performances of Northern Capital creative teams and several finalists of Investigative Committee contest for amateur art and performance. The younger generation of the Investigative Committee represented by students of the Saint Petersburg Academy and Cadet Corps of the Investigative Committee of Russia also prepared congratulation.

In conclusion of the commemoration, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia awarded the veterans of Leningrad criminal investigation and departments for combating organized crime with institutional awards and noted their dedication to the service throughout decades. Alexander Bastrykin also awarded Vladislav Chernushenko with an institutional award for his support in addressing challenges entrusted to the Committee.
