Cadets of Alexander Nevsky Cadet School join Young Army

A solemn ceremony of cadets of Alexander Nevsky Cadet School pledging allegiance to the Young Army took place in the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Gora and was attended by Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin.

The event was also attended by Chairman of the Defence Committee of the State Duma, Chief of Moscow Unit of the Young Army, Hero of the Russian Federation Vladimir Shamanov; Chairman of the Bureau of the National Association of Investigation Veterans Organization “Union of Investigative Veterans” Vladimir Dontsov; his deputy Mikhail Umrikhin; Head of the Educational Outreach Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Hero of the Russian Federation Sergey Petrov; teachers and students of the Cadet School; relatives of the students; and other honoured guests.

The choice of the date for the ceremony was deliberate - it coincides with significant dates of the Russian history: the start of the Red Army counter-attack near Moscow (December 5, 1941); Remembrance Day of Saint and Blessed Knight Alexander Nevsky, after whom the Cadet School was named (December 6); and the Local Heroes Day which is celebrated in our country on December 9.

The event started with placement of flowers to the Sorrow Memorial in the Hall of Remembrance and Sorrow in honour of ancestors who had defended the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War.

In his welcoming speech, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia noted: “The Young Army is a wonderful initiative of the Ministry for Defence that further elaborated in our country; we remember about our victories and our ancestors and we are ready to carry on fighting a good fight.” “Today, the cadet education is becoming one of key elements of support for talented and active children,” the Chairman of the Committee stated and underlined that there is a demand for the Cadet movement of the Investigative Committee of Russia and it is actively expanding. “From a young age, you are inculcated with such high qualities as love for the homeland, responsibility, courage and bravery, honour and integrity, kindness and responsiveness. We see you as worthy successors of noble generations of Russian cadets and best cadet traditions,” the Chairman said, and drew attention of the cadets to the great responsibility they are taking, first of all for their deeds and actions.

“Whatever profession you choose in future, you have to remember that society evaluates a person firstly not by their career successes and achievements but by their deeds and actions, their connections to their family, their parents and senior generation,” the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia added.

Addressing the cadets, Alexander Bastrykin reminded that there is always a place for a feat, and told the students about a heroic deed of Vanya Krapivin. More than a year ago, the courageous boy stood up for his mother and tried to protect her from an attack of a neighbour armed with a knife. The boy received severe injuries and died despite all efforts of doctors. “He is another young hero we need to remember and take after. We will memorialise Vanya’s name posthumously and put it in the little heroes list of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the memory of him to give you strength,” Alexander Bastrykin concluded.

Director of the Cadet School, Soviet Union Hero Igor Zaporozhan urged the cadets to serve the Motherland selflessly, to know its history, to be proud of heroic deeds of their fathers and grandfathers, and specially underlined that “joining the Young Army, cadets of the school proved again their readiness to follow best traditions of our ancestors.”

Vladimir Shamanov congratulated the students on the significant event and wished them success in their studies. He also thanked the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia for his “clear civil position in forming of patriotic state of mind among the youth in word and deed.”

90 students of the Cadet School of the Investigative Committee of Russia joined the military-patriotic movement. Each cadet member of the Young Army brotherhood promised to protect the weak, to be honest and noble citizen of Russia, and to bear the high rank with dignity; they received badges of the Young Army Cadets National Movement from honoured guests.
