In Tyumen, probe launched into death of child upon media report, supervised by the Central Office of the Investigative Committee

The Tyumen Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal inquiry into an offence under Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Russia (negligent homicide owing to the improper discharge by a person of their professional duties), upon report of a federal media outlet.

The media reported that, on November 23, 2018, parents of a 1.5-year-old boy addressed the children inpatient clinic of the Tyumen Regional Hospital No. 2 with complaints on his long-time cough. However, the child died despite the medical assistance he had received.

At the moment, the investigation conducts the required complex of investigative activities to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy. Arrangements are being made for questioning of the parents and healthcare specialists; relevant documents are being seized. The investigation will inspect the completeness, quality and timeliness of the assistance provided to the child, which requires a single-panel forensic examination. The boy’s parents will be heard at a personal reception of the Chief of the Regional Directorate as soon as possible.

The progress and results of the investigation are supervised by the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
