Investigative Committee of Russia holds briefing to review its work in certain areas

Today the Investigative Committee of Russia held a briefing to review its work on investigation of past year crimes and crimes against minors, responding to appeals of citizens and carrying out personal reception sessions for 9 months of 2018. The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee Igor Krasnov, chiefs of the Central Office units and of regional investigations directorates that feature some drawbacks in their performance. These include investigations directorates for Moscow, Kaluga, Smolensk, Kostroma, Novgorod, Omsk Regions, the Republics of Khakassia and Karelia, Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Jewish Autonomous Region and others.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia reminded that for the whole period of work of the Investigative Committee its investigators and forensic experts solved over 70,000 past years crimes. However, this number for 9 months of 2018 has slightly decreased in comparison with the same period of 2017 - from 4,761 to 4,369.

The Chairman of the Committee reminded his subordinates that it was important to respond to appeals of citizens and to carry out personal reception sessions. He noted an increase in the number of appeals received by the Central Office. During 9 months of 2018 the Central Office has received 103,000 appeals, which exceeds the number for last year by 13%. This shows that chiefs of certain regional investigations directorates fail to provide adequate responses to initial appeals of citizens and demonstrate indifference towards arguments of the people.

Alexander Bastrykin listened to reports of chiefs of investigations directorates for Moscow, Kaluga, Kostroma and Smolensk regions. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to carry out a thoughtful substantive assessment of the drawbacks in order to develop systematic measures for improvement of the performance of these and some other investigative units in the listed areas of work.
