Chairman of Russian Investigative Committee requests for probe into murder of 16-year-old athlete in Tolyatti to be referred to Central Office

On December 23, around 10 PM, a body of a 16-year-old girl showing signs of violent death - stabbed wounds to her neck and torso - was found in a wasteland not far from 31A Yubileinaya Street, Tolyatti.

The Samara Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched a criminal inquiry under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder).

In the shortest possible time, the investigation identified and detained a person suspected of committing said offense. It was the girl’s acquaintance, the 16-year-old resident of Tolyatti, who was placed in custody. According to preliminary data, because of a quarrel, the suspect stabbed the victim more than 30 times, from which she died at the scene.

Due to the great attention of the public to this incident, the age of the deceased and the circumstances of the offense, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to refer the investigation to the Central Office. The investigators were instructed to conduct a comprehensive examination of the living conditions of minors, as well as to establish the causes and conditions that contributed to the commission of the offense.
