In Krasnodar Territory, Vodostok engineer to stand trial for negligence that entailed death of 7-year-old boy

The Krasnodar Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia completed the investigation into Deputy Chief Engineer on Storm Sewage System Operation of Vodostok Municipal Unitary Enterprise of Sochi. He is accused of neglect of duty, which involved by negligence death of a person (Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

On August 3, 2018 in Lazarevskoye a seven-year-old boy fell into an open storm drain filled with rainwater and subsequently died. The inquiry into infliction of death by negligence by the owner of the guest house where the boy and his grandmother stayed and where the boy fell is finished.

During the investigation investigators also gave a legal evaluation to inaction of officials of Vodostok Municipal Unitary Enterprise of Sochi since the drain had been under their economic jurisdiction. According to the investigation, in violation of the construction regulations, the technical condition of the piece of the storm sewage system had not been assessed from August 2017 to August 2018; employees of Vodostok Municipal Unitary Enterprise had failed to discover the violations of the absence of fencing and railings. The man’s neglect of his duties entailed the tragic consequences of the child’s death due to negligence.

The investigation gathered enough evidence, therefore, the probe with the approved indictment will be sent to the court to be tried on the merits.
