In Vologda, Investigative Committee officers detain man suspected of inflicting grave injuries to his minor son

The Vologda Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has launched a probe into infliction of grave injuries to a minor boy by his family under Paragraph B of Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Russia (intentional infliction of grave injuries to a minor).

On December 26, 2018, at about 10 PM, an 8-month-old boy was delivered to a hospital with a closed traumatic brain injury that entailed grievous bodily harm.

A crime scene investigation team including forensic experts of the Vologda Regional Investigations Directorate immediately went off to the crime scene where they worked all night and the following day.

As the investigators determined, neighbours called the police and complained about shouting and a family conflict. The boy and his 4-year-old brother were immediately removed from the family because the police detected signs of beatings on their mother. The children were subject to medical examination in order to check information about possible violence against them, which revealed a grave injury of an 8-month-old boy.

As a result of investigative activities, officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia detained a 32-year-old Vologda citizen - the father of the injured boy. At the moment, investigators are collecting necessary data to elect preventive measure for him and carrying out a whole complex of investigative activities aimed to determine circumstances of the injuries. The investigation into the mother of the children is ongoing.

At the moment, investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. They will thoroughly inspect the conditions, in which children had been living and brought up to find out whether there had been any grounds to suspect that the interests of the minor children might had been violated in this family and there were earlier episodes of violent treatment of them. A legal assessment will be given to completeness and timeliness of measures taken by prevention system authorities based on the established circumstances. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
