Chairman of Russian Investigative Committee instructs to launch probe into road accident with children injured in Saint Petersburg

On December 30, 2018 two cars collided on the crossroad of Nevsky Prospekt and Fontanka River Embankment in Saint Petersburg. The accident made one of the car drive over a sidewalk with pedestrians. According to preliminary data, six persons were injured with varying severity and sent to healthcare facilities. There were two minors among them. Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed officers of the Saint Petersburg Main Investigations Directorate to immediately open a criminal inquiry into the accident and refer it to the Central Office following the required initial investigative activities.

The investigators are to establish the causes and conditions of the accident and determine the circumstances contributed to the offence.
