In Orenburg check launched in death of man transported by special flight from Thailand

In the evening of 30 October 2014, a 27-year-old resident of the town of Novy Urengoy (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area) died in an intensive care unit of Orenburg Region Clinical Hospital. The Orenburg Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a pre-investigating check into the fact.

According to preliminary data, on 18 October 2014, the man was transported by a Russian Emergencies Ministry’ jet from Bangkok, Thailand, with an open craniocerebral trauma and numerous fractures to skull base. He had sustained those injuries on 23 September 2014, when he had fallen from a motorbike and before 18 October had been treated at a hospital in Bangkok.

At present the check is underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident, investigators have requested medical documents. A forensic medical inquiry has been assigned to find the cause of death. During the probe the investigators are going to assess actions of hospital staff regarding timeliness and quality of medical aid provided to the patient. A procedural decision will be taken following the check.
