Konstantin Kotov who participated in unauthorized event in Moscow, sentenced
The evidence gathered by the Moscow Main Directorate on Major Crimes Investigation of the Investigative Committee of Russia was found to be sufficient by the court to decide upon an indictment for Konstantin Kotov. He was found guilty in committing an offence under Article 212.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (repeated violation of the established procedure for the organization of a public rally or demonstration).
The investigation and the court found that Kotov has been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for the last six months, for committing the offences under Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (violation of the established procedure for organizing or holding a meeting, rally, demonstration, march, or picket). On August 10, 2019, in violation of the legislation in effect, he took part in a mass event--an uncoordinated rally in the center of Moscow, ignoring the legitimate demands of police officers to stop committing the illegal act.
While trying to escape, Kotov was detained and taken to the Investigative Department of the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate.
Despite the fact that Kotov did not plead guilty to the alleged activities during the preliminary investigation, the investigation collected irrefutable evidence confirming his involvement in the offence.
The court sentenced Konstantin Kotov to four years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony.
In addition, the criminal case into Aidar Gubaidulin accused under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of Russia (attempted use of violence against a representative of the power) has been transferred to the court to be tried on the merits. The accused threw a bottle at a law enforcement officer during a mass event on 27 July.
