Alexander Bastrykin instructs to take control over investigation into disappearance of girl in Vologda Region

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin has instructed the Central Office to take control over the criminal case initiated by the Vologda Regional Investigations Directorate regarding the disappearance of a two-year-old girl in Tarnogsky District (Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

As previously reported, in Krasnoe rural settlement of Tarnogsky District, a mother had left her two-year-old daughter in a sandbox on Krasnaya Street with two young sisters (six and four years old) at about 11 AT on September 4, 2019, and had gone to a friend’s house to feed her newborn child. Upon returning, the woman had not found her two-year-old daughter and kept on searching for her on her own until 3 PM, following which she had reported to a law enforcement station.

The search for the child continues; it involves over 400 people, including the full staff of the Forensics Department of the Vologda Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee, chiefs and investigators from the Major Crimes Department of the Directorate, officers of the Internal Affairs authorities, including the canine team, specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, representatives of search teams, volunteers, and local residents.

Concurrently, the investigators are inspecting the living conditions and upbringing of children in the family. According to available data, the woman born in 1990 is the mother of five young children; she had previously been held administratively liable for her improper performance of parental duties and registered with the internal affairs authorities for prevention.

As part of the investigation, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to thoroughly and objectively study all the circumstances of the disappearance of the child, give a legal assessment to the actions (inaction) of the prevention authorities, identify and respond to all the causes and conditions that contributed to the disappearance of the child, without stopping the search activities.
