Investigative Committee establishes involvement of Ukrainian soldier in another artillery attack on civilians in Donbass

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues the investigation into the use of banned means and methods of warfare against peaceful citizens of South-East of Ukraine.

As reported earlier, one of the perpetrators is Andrey Gnatov, the commander of the 36th separate marina corps brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who, on September 1 of this year, ordered for an artillery attack on civilians in Kominternovo rural settlement, including OSCE personnel and non-staff photojournalist of Russia Today.

The investigators jointly with operative services established the involvement of Gnatov in another similar offence. On September 6, 2019, he took part in artillery attacks on civil infrastructure objects in Rosa rural settlement of Novoyazovsky District of the self-appointed Donetsk People’s Republic. This crime caused injuries to a civil woman not taking part in the armed conflict.

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched another probe into an offence under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Russia (cruel treatment of civilians and use in a military conflict of means and methods of warfare, banned by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

Investigative and search activities aimed to establish all circumstances and to identify other commanding officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine involved in the commitment of offences against peaceful citizens of the South-East of Ukraine continue.
