In the Republic of Dagestan, two men suspected of financing of terrorism

The Dagestan Republican Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has launched two probes into a 41-year-old resident of Makhachkala and a 29-year-old resident of Kizilyurtovsky District. They are suspected of committing offences under Part 1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (financing of terrorism).

According to the investigators, from 2015 to 2017, being aware of the fact that two men had been taking part in the operations of the terrorist organization ISIL banned in the Russian Federation, the suspects had transferred them about 10.01 million rubles respectively, which had been received by the members of the terrorist organization and used for the needs of the said organization.

This offence was detected due to the cooperation of investigators and units of the Russian Federal Security Services and North Caucasian Federal District Main Directorate of the Ministry for Internal Affairs of Russia. At the moment, the suspects are detained.

Investigative activities aimed to prove the evidence are ongoing; it is being decided upon the suspects’ placement in custody. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
