Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia posthumously awards Valor and Courage medal to the boy who tried to save his grandfather from fire

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin has posthumously awarded the medal “Valor and Courage” of the Investigative Committee to six-year-old Svyatoslav Yushkov from the Republic of Karelia, who suffered burns of 90% of his body trying to save his grandfather from fire.

Despite all efforts of doctors, Svyatoslav passed away in the burn care facility in Nizhny Novgorod where he was delivered after the accident.

On August 30, 2019, Svyatoslav had gone to a bath sauna with his grandfather who had fainted when firing up the furnace. The child had tried to pull the adult outside and caught fire himself. His grandfather died and Svyatoslav, suffering severe burns, was delivered to Nizhny Novgorod by an EMERCOM specially organized flight.

Alexander Bastrykin has expressed his condolences on Svyatoslav’s death to his relatives and friends. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia has also thanked the doctors and the officials who did their utmost to save the child. He has noted that the feat of young Svyatoslav will always stay in our memory and set a good example for the growing generation. Along with young heroes Vanya Krapivin, Jenya Tabakov, Andrey Kasimov, and Danila Sadykov, Svyatoslav sacrificed his life to save a relative. This deed of the young boy who refused to leave his grandfather in the emergency alone deserves the highest possible moral and humane appreciation.
