Sentence imposed over man found guilty of financing terrorism

The evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate over North Caucasian Federal District of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found sufficient by the court to sentence Eric Shabanov. He was found guilty of committing an offence under Part 1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (financing terrorism). Operational support was provided by the officers of the Federal Security Service unit.

The investigation and the court established that, in June 2016, in Makhachkala city of the Republic of Dagestan, acting from religious beliefs to support the international organization ISIS (banned in Russia), Shabanov had used his bank card to transfer 30,000 rubles to the account indicated by his brothers. The brothers at that time had been taking part in military actions on the side of the said organization in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The North Caucasian District Military Court found Shabanov guilty of the incriminated offence and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment.
