Probe into death of 8 people in fire in Krasnoyarsk referred to the Central Office upon instruction of Chairman of the Investigative Committee

Upon instruction of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the probe into the death of eight people in a fire in Krasnoyarsk has been referred to the Central Office of the Investigative Committee to ensure the most comprehensive and impartial investigation. Experienced forensic investigators of the Main Forensics Directorate (Forensics Center) of the Investigative Committee have departed for the scene to provide practical support.

The fire that resulted in the death of eight people started in an apartment of the five-story residential building on Gusarov Street in Krasnoyarsk at night on September 15-16, 2019. The victims of the fire include four adults and four minors. It is established that a family with two children have been living in the apartment, hosting relatives with children as well for the weekend.

At the moment, the scene is being examined by investigators and forensic experts, as well as representatives of other agencies, in order to establish the cause and circumstances of the fire. A fire technical examination, along with other required activities, has been arranged. A priority version of the cause of the fire is short circuit but other possibilities will be studied as well. The investigation is opened under Part 3 of Article 109 (infliction of death by negligence) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

The progress of the investigation is supervised.
